Roland McCachren, for 11 years connected with the local street railway system, as platform man and assistant inspector, died Saturday night at Mercy hospital, following an operation three days ago for abcess on the lung, the operation having been taken as a last resort. He had been sick at his home, 214 East Oak street, for three months.

Mr. McCachern was 47 years old, having been born in Cabarrus county and coming to Charlotte when a young man. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and other secret organizations, and a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church.

He was married in 1899 to Miss Johnsie Downs, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Ambrose Downs, a well known family of the county. Mrs. McCachren and 12 children survive, in addition to four brothers, C. M., R. B., C. O. and H. M. McCachren, of Harrisburg, and one sister, Mrs. F. L. Gibbons, of Kannapolis.

The body was removed yesterday to the home, where the funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock by Rev. Bunyan McLeod. The pall bearers will be from among the platform men of the street railway system. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
