FALL RIVER -- Joseph W. Dean, 69, of Davis Road, Westport, formerly of Fall River, died Tuesday at the Rose Hawthorne Lathrop Home.
He was born in Pacific Beach, Calif., the son of the late John Dean and Sadie M. (Griffin) Dean and resided in Fall River for 55 years until moving to Westport 11 years ago.
He attended Durfee High School and was a Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the American Theater.
Mr. Dean was a pharmacist technician at the former Henry Duffy Pharmacy in Fall River for 30 years and for 11 years at Lafayette Pharmacy in Fall River until retiring in July of 1996.
While he resided in Fall River he attended Immaculate Conception Church and while in Westport was a communicant of St. George Church. He was a former member of the St. Anne's Fraternity.
He is survived by his close friend and sister-in-law, Francelina (Estrella) Dean of Westport; one brother, James D. Dean of Annadale, Va.; one sister, Lt. Col. Kathleen M. Dean US Army (Ret.) of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Robert J. Dean, John L. Dean, William Dean and Eleanor M. Tetuan.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. George Church, Highland Avenue, Westport. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.
