Hoyt Hutcherson, State Auditor Dies
Services for Elbert Hoyt Hutcherson, 58 yrs old, a State Auditor and former Weakley County Trustee, were held at 11 a.m. December 22, 1973 in the Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Denver Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Cemetery. Mr. Hutcherson died Thursday, December 20th at the Obion County Hospital.
Mr. Hutcherson was the son of the late Asa Clois Hutcherson and Onie Maye Mosley Hutcherson. He graduated from Dresden High School and also attended Bruce Business Institute in Martin. He served over two years in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, spending more than 18 months of this time in the South Pacific, fighting in the battles of Saipan and Pelileu. He was a former City Alderman, serving out the unexpired term of his late father. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dresden, and has served on the Board of Stewards as Chairman of the Finance Committee.
Mr. Hutcherson has served as commander and adjutant of the American Legion Post #94. He was a Master Mason in Dresden Lodge #90, and has been a Rotarian. He served two terms as Trustee of Weakley County, and while serving in this capacity he was a director and Vice President of the Tennessee County Trustee's Association.
Surviving Mr. Hutcherson are his wife, Pauline Bowers Hutcherson; a son, Joe Thomas Hutcherson of Selmer; a daughter, Ann Hutcherson Blackburn of Dresden; two brothers, Dale Hutcherson and Wade Hutcherson of Dresden; two sisters, Lula Mae Hutcherson Shanklin of Latham, Ruby Faye Hutcherson Sherwood of Memphis; and five grandchildren, Gregory Hoyt Hutcherson, Timothy Hutcherson, and Amy Joe Hutcherson all of Selmer, Kimberly Ann Blackburn and Britt Blackburn of Dresden.
