-Huntsville Herald Wednesday, October 18, 1893
The home of Mr and Mrs John Breckinridge, one mile west of town, was darkened by a visitation of the Grim Reaper on Dec 1st. Their little son, Sam Miller Breckinridge, aged about 6 years, was stricken with diphtheria (sic) and died. (Another notice published Dec 10, 1897, indicates that their son, John, and daughter, Nellie, were subsequently stricken with the same disease, but are both now thought to be out of danger. George, the oldest child, has been considerably indisposed, but he hasn't the diphtheria and it is thought that he will escape it. The youngest child, a little girl, has escaped thus far)
