Jane would have graduated with a Batchelor of Arts degree from Heritage College on the Saturday after her death. Her husband Rick received her diploma for her. Rick sent a copy of the newspaper report and letter to the attending class at graduation. The letter read as follows:

HERITAGE COLLEGE
SPECIAL AWARD OF POSTHUMOUS DEGREE

Ladies and gentlemen, at this time we will have a special diploma presentation. During the past seven years, Mrs. Jane Knapp was an outstanding student at Heritage College pursuing a degree in English. Just as she was finishing her last courses, a fatal illness overtook her. On the recommendation of her major advisor, Dr. Loren Schmidt, Heritage College is presenting a diploma for a Batchelor of Arts in English to her posthumously.

Receiving her diploma is her husband Richard Knapp. Will Mr. Rick Knapp please come forward?

Let us have a moment of silence in memory of Jane Knapp.
