Nila Hiatt Stephens, born May 26, 1919, in Heber City, Utah, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at the age of 93.


She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Lawrence Kampen Stephens, and son, Rudy Stephens.


Nila has resided in California since 1938 and she attended Stanislaus State University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. She taught school for twenty years in Modesto, California and was also a private music teacher who loved to play the organ for her church.


Nila is survived by sons, Lawrence (Mary) Stephens, Kent (Dixie) Stephens; daughters, Marilyn (Jim) Lynch and Marlene (Ken) Astle; nineteen grandchildren; fifty-five great grandchildren; and fourteen great great grandchildren.


Nila enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and serving her church and community through music.


Arrangements have been entrusted to Franklin & Downs Funeral Home.


A viewing will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 9:30 am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4300 Dale Road, Modesto, California.


Committal to follow, Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Avenue, Hughson, California.
