CHURCHVILLE — Allen Clifford Argenbright, 84, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Born Feb. 12, 1928, in West Augusta, he was a son of Albert Clarence and Elva June (Terry) Argenbright.

Prior to retirement, he was co-owner of Argenbright Brothers Lumber and Logging Co. He was a member of West Augusta United Methodist Church. Mr. Argenbright enjoyed playing bluegrass and gospel music. He and his band, "Hill Country," were proud to have traveled to Greece with the JMU Cloggers in 1983. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and playing music with his grandson, Pug. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Michael Ray Argenbright; and his former wife, Helen Virginia Argenbright. Surviving are four children, Kenneth Argenbright of Churchville, Gary Argenbright and wife, Marie, of Churchville, Phyllis Argenbright and Scott Fridley of Churchville and Mary Carroll and husband, J.D., of Fishersville; a brother, Dennis Argenbright and wife, Dorothy, of Churchville; five grandchildren, William "Pug" Argenbright, Steven J. Rawley, Brandon Argenbright, Brandy Argenbright and Megan Carroll; eight great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Bert Argenbright and Dennis Argenbright Jr.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at West Augusta United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Deb Washer and Gary Armstrong. Burial will be in West Augusta Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Raymond "Gee" McCray, Bobby McManaway, Loe Bear, Bert Argenbright, Dennis Argenbright Jr., David Armstrong, Roger Miller and Morgan Garner.

Honorary pallbearers will be church members and fellow musicians.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Bear Funeral Home.
