Madeline Barrett Winslow, 91, of Grants Pass died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Oak Lane.

A memorial will be held during the worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Newman United Methodist Church. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Winslow was born July 8, 1909, in Long Beach, Calif. After graduation from high school in Ashland, she attended Southern Oregon Normal School where she received her two-year teacher's certificate. In July 1927, in Ashland, she married Floyd "Fat" Barrett, who died in 1969. She ran a one-room school, teaching grades one through eight at Elk Creek. Her specialty was teaching art.

In 1945, they moved to Grants Pass and opened Barrett's Stationary and Office Supply, which they operated until 1966. She also served as the director of the Josephine County Head Start Program.

In 1982, she married Lawrence Winslow, who died in the late 1990s. In 1984, they moved to British Columbia and lived there until 1994, when they returned to Grants Pass.

She was a member of Business and Professional Women in Grants Pass and Zonta. She was also president of the Grants Pass High School PTA for eight years, a lifetime member and national secretary of the PTA until her retirement in 1959. She was one of the founders of the Rogue Rovers Trailer Club and a member of Newman United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed her flower garden, reading and being involved in civic projects.

Survivors include one son, Patrick C. Barrett of Eugene, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A son, Michael Barrett, died before her.
