Mrs. Sophia Whitis, 91, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bertha Nichols, 701 N. Eighth St., Sunday at 11:15 p.m. following a lengthy illness. Born Sept 19, 1866 at Coshocton County, she was a daughter of the late William and Hannah Walgamotte Dugan. She was married to Albert Whitis, who died in 1944, and was a member of the Center Methodist Church. Two sons, a daughter, four brothers and three sisters are deceased. She leaves four daughters Mrs. Nichols of Cambridge; Mrs. Mell Clark of San Bernadino, Calif.; Mrs. Alta Nuss of Brownell Kan; Mrs. Ruth Stephens of Wichita, Kan; three sons, Glen Whitis of Wichita, Kan; Victor Whitis of McCracken, Kan; Sam Whitis of Coshocton, a brother, S.E. Dugan of El Dorado, Mo. 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the McCracken Funeral Home where funeral arrangements are incomplete.
