Ephraim A. Keyser.
By his daughter, Maggie Keyser.
In sad, but loving memory of my dear father, Ephraim A. Keyser, who passed from time to eternity, near Luray, Va., on Monday morning, July 5, 1908, aged about 80 years.
Loved in life, in death though art doubly dear! Sad indeed are the words "Mother is dead!" Inexpressably sad are the words "Father and mother are dead!" Only those who have gone through the deep waters can tell of the agony experienced in this parting.
Dear father, could you but open those lips again and speak to me again, my bruised and bleeding heart would be healed, but this I know is but vain! Oh! could I but open thy grave, and see again thy kindly face, hear again thy gentle voice, as in the days of yore!
This too, alas! I know is vain! Dear father, you have left me all alone to battle with his cold cruel world! No more here on earth to walk by my side along life's rugged pathway!
In the grave-yard softly sleeping, Where the Flowers gently wave Lies the one I loved so dearly, In his lonely silent grave!
You will never be forgotten, Never shall your memory fade,
Sweetest thoughts shall ever linger Around the grave where thou art laid!
