Obituary for Robert Lee Nance

Robert Lee Nance, son of Alonzo Nance & Tena (Baker) Nance, was born October 2, 1925 in Pope County Illinois. He departed this life Thursday morning, September 29, 2005 at 3:52 AM at the Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY. At the time of his passing, Bob had attained the age of 79 years, 11 months & 27 days.

Bob was united in marriage to D. Lorene (Townsend) on May 7, 1949 in Bowling Green, OH. She survives.

Other survivors include: a Daughter Dora L. Howell & her husband, Jerry of Carmi, IL; 2 Grandchildren Sarah Elizabeth Howell & Odum Benjamin Howell both of Carmi, IL; a Sister Florence Absher of Carrier Mills, IL; a Brother Herb Nance of Simpson, IL; Several Nieces & Nephews.

In addition to his Parents, Robert was preceded in death by: a Brother Curtis Nance; 2 Sisters " Ruth Jackson & Ludean Burch.

Bob was a United States Navy Veteran having served during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #364 in Carrier Mills, IL. Bob had been employed by General Motors as a Bearing Technician in Plant #5 at the Pontiac, MI facility for 34 years, prior to his retirement in 1979. He was a member of the United Auto Workers.
He was a member of the Eddyville Masonic Lodge #672 AF & AM.

Bob was an ordained Baptist minister. He was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church, where he had formerly served as interim pastor. Previously, Bob had served as pastor of the Oxford, Michigan Baptist Church and associate pastor of the Auburn Heights, Michigan Baptist Church. Bob also attended and performed pulpit supply ministry at the Olive General Baptist Church. His last pastorate was at the Tunnel Hill Baptist Church.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, & chopping firewood. Bob had a special stump where he spent time alone with God. Bob was a Great Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother & Uncle.

Bob leaves his family & many dear friends to cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, October 1, 2005 at 11 AM at the Ozark Baptist Church. The body will lie-in-state at the church from 10 AM - 11 AM Saturday. Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery, near Ozark, IL.

Friends may call Friday evening after 6 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, IL.
