Services for Raymond Beckwith, 70, who died Tuesday at Cameron Community hospital were held Thursday afternoon at Mt. Moriah Baptist church in Berlin, conducted by the Rev. Harold Leasure, and burial was in the Berlin cemetery.
Although Mr. Beckwith had been ill several months his death was unexpected. Farm tractors and an ambulance were used to get him through snow drifted roads from his home to the Cameron hospital before dawn on Christmas day. An emergency operation was performed later that day, and his condition was considered critical several days. He made a splendid recovery however, and had been scheduled for discharge from the hospital the day before his death occurred.
Mr. Beckwith was born May 1, 1891, in DeKalb county, a son of Susan and Chauncey Beckwith. He married Miss Rebecca Groom, Sept. 4, 1910, and they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sept. 4, 1960. A farmer most of his life, he had lived in the Berlin vicinity, east of King City, since 1944. He was a member of the Epworth Chapel Methodist church near Maysville. He was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and a dependable friend.
Surviving besides his wife are one son, Groom Beckwith of Kansas City; three daughters, Miss Leota Beckwith of Kansas City, Mrs. Foster Lefler of Morris, Ill., and Mrs. L. P. Bromley of Independence, Mo.; one brother, Orville Beckwith of Cameron; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Cline of Maysville and Mrs. Agnes Dana of Pontiac, Mich.; two grandchildren, Suzanne and Michael Ray Bromley, and several nieces and nephews.
