Mrs. Doris Edith Carpenter, 54, of Lower Salem, Route 2, died Sunday morning, February 24, 1974 at nine o’clock, in Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 10, 1919, at Parkersburg, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Robert W. and Louise M. Ruf Barnhart.

On August 3, 1936 she was married to Rector D. Carpenter, who survives with two sons and one daughter, Larry Daniel Carpenter, of St. Petersburg, Florida; David L. Carpenter, of Marietta, and Mrs. David (Linda) Pritchett, of Marietta, Route 5.

Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren; three brothers, Julius R. Barnhart, of Seminole, Florida; Donald E. Barnhart, of Marietta, and Terry Lee Barnhart, of Massillon, and five sisters, Mrs. James Vanoster and Mrs. Chester R. Jett, of Marietta; Mrs. Jack Reed, of St. Petersburg, Florida; Mrs. Donald O. Green, of Bartlett, and Miss Sara Belle Barnhart, of Gallipolis.

Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter had lived on Walnut Hills Drive, Marietta, before moving to Salem Township, Washington County, one month ago.

Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Central Christian Church, Marietta; Mothers Club, Buell Relief Corps No. 70 and Bethel Ladies Club.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon, February 27th, at 2:30 o’clock, in the Doudna & McClure Funeral Home at Marietta. Burial was in Valley Cemetery.
