Lawrence P. Holmes, 78, of Kankakee, died Thursday (Aug. 30, 2012) at his home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Kankakee. The Rev. Robert Duda will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kankakee. Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities or to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where he was a member and Eucharistic minister.
Mr. Holmes was a retired carpenter from Local 496. He was born Aug. 12, 1934, in Chicago, the son of Lynde and Cecilia Boisvert Holmes. His wife, the former Nelda Pearce, whom he married Oct. 12, 1957, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, died Aug. 6, 2009. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea, and a member of the Kankakee American Legion Post 85 burial squad. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Kankakee Moose Lodge 802 and a past volunteer at the Illinois Veterans Home at Manteno. He enjoyed woodworking.
Surviving are one son, T.J. Holmes, of Kankakee; one daughter, Tari Holmes, of Louisville, Ky.; two grandchildren, Michael and Timothy Holmes; and one sister, Patricia Pearce, of Manteno.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Timmy and Thomas; one daughter, Tammy; one sister and one brother.
