Floyd Newburn, 81, of Partridge, died June 10, 1999 at Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born March 27, 1918 at Wichita, the son of Ira O and Alice Hamilton Newburn. He graduated from Hutchinson High School. A longtime Hutchinson resident, recently moving to Partridge and formerly a California resident for 15 years, he was a private contract painter. He worked for more than 20 years for Lynn Unruh Builder and was contracted by the United States government to paint facilities throughout California, retiring in 1982.

He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose No 982 and Veterans of Foreign War Bob Campbell Post No 1361, both at Hutchinson, and was also a member of the Painters Union in Hutchinson and California. He served in the U S Navy during World War II.

On October 4, 1937 he married Florence L Stewart at Newton. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Bill, Leavenworth; a daughter, Hannah Hoeffer of Partridge; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise; four brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services will be at 10 am Saturday in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with the Rev Pamela J Tinnin presiding. Military graveside honors will be performed by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9am to 9pm today at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno County or to the Partridge Community Church, both in care of the mortuary.
