Rosa Ellen Nuckolls Witherow, 79, widow of the late B G Witherow, Galax, died early Tuesday morning, October 18, in a hospital at Marion. She had been in declining health for a number of years.

The deceased woman was a daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin Floyd Nuckolls, Oldtown, who was well known throughout this section as a Methodist minister and a member of the Holston Conference, until his death in 1919.

Surviving are one son, Ben Witherow, Galax; one sister, Mrs. J. E. Johnston, Cleveland, TN; and one grandson, Charles G. Witherow, Newport News.

The body was brought here Tuesday and remained at the home of the son, on West Center Street, until thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3:30 pm, in the First Methodist Church by the pastor, Dr. M. A. Stevenson, who raid the scripture; Rev. George H. Murray, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, who offered the opening prayer, and Dr. D. Sidney McCarty, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Mount Airy, NC, who gave the funeral discourse. Dr. McCarty served the local Presbyterian Church as pastor for seventeen and a half years.

A quartet composed of Mrs. William C. Berry, Miss Grace Bishop, Dr. Glen G. Foster, and James K. Carico, sang "There is Fountain Filled with Blood" and "Rock of Ages." Mrs. Paul H. Kapp sang "I've Done My Work.”

Active pallbearers were Ned Anderson, Fred Adams, Lance M. Todd, Earl Nuckolls, Sid Cregar, and Orville Painter.

Interment was in the Felts Cemetery.
