Charles Abernathy Bridges, Jr.
60 of 3370 Bridges Dairy Road, Shelby, died Friday, October 15, 1999 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Funeral is 2:30 PM Monday at Polkville United Methodist Church, the Rev. Jack Owenby and the Rev. Alton Martin officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.

The family received friends from 5-8 PM Sunday at Stamey Funeral Home.

Born February 28, 1939 in Cleveland Co., NC, he was a son of the late Charles Abernathy Bridges, Sr., and Kathleen Whisnant Bridges.

He was co-owner and operator of Bridges and Cook Dairy, Polkville. He was a member of Polkville United Methodist Church, the NC State Fair Livestock Hall of Fame, the Board of Directors of the NC Guernsey Breeders Association and the Livestock Committee for the Dixie Classic Fair. He was also one of four members of the State of North Carolina's 1955 Dairy Judging Team to Waterloo, Iowa. He was the Dairy Livestock Director for the Cleveland County Fair and exhibited dairy cattle at National Shows in Wisconsin, Ohio, Kentucky, the NC State Fair, the Dixie Classic Fair, and the Cleveland County Fair. He tapped into the State 4-H Honor Club in 1957 and attended the 1956 National 4-H Convention in Chicago.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Edith Butler Bridges of Shelby; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Kevin and Amy Bridges of Shelby; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Thomas Sutton of Danbury; daughter, Kristin Bridges of Shelby; twin sister and brother-in-law, Sybil B. and Jerry Willis of Shelby; granddaughters, Renee Bridges, Ashley Bridges, and Kelsey Bridges; four nephews, Marshall Peace, Talmadge Peace, David Peace, and Jeff Willis; and three nieces, Ann Smith, Sarah Helbling and Jennifer Wynn.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Joyce Peace.
