Fontella L. Spangler, 86, Union City, Georgia, died April 30, 2002. She was born February 13, 1916 in Corryton, Tennessee. She worked as a school secretary for
the Knox County Board of Education before moving to East Point in 1948. She was retired from the Fulton County School system after 25 years of service. She then
worked as a volunteer at South Fulton Hospital and at Southwest Christian Hospice, where she logged more than 2,500 hours of volunteer service. She was active in her homeowners association until her death.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Henry W. Spangler; a daughter, Barbara and Donald R. Bone,
Fayetteville; grandchildren, Laura B. and Tony Burnette, Brooks, and Donald Lawrence and Belinda Bone, McDonough; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Dr. James "Jim" Dyer and Rev. Jimmy Donovan officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.
