ERMINIA OLIVAS
CARLSBAD--A funeral for Erminia Villa Olivas, 70, of West Ortega Street, will be 10 a.m. Monday at San Jose Catholic Church with the Rev. Valentine Jankowski officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Catarina Cemetery.
A vigil will be 7 p.m. today at San Jose Catholic Church.
Mrs. Olivas died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Lea Regional Medical Center in Hobbs.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Erminia Villa Olivas was born June 9, 1931, to Lorenzo Villa and Concepcion Carrillo Villa in Carlsbad, where she grew up. She lived in Carlsbad until 1970 when she moved to Hobbs. She returned to Carlsbad about three years ago.
On April 27, 1952, she married Jesus M. Olivas in Carlsbad.
Mrs. Olivas was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing and her yard.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; a son, Amando Olivas; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
Survivors include her husband of Carlsbad; sons, Louis Olivas of Murietta, Calif., Jerry Olivas of Carlsbad, and Juan Olivas of Hobbs; daughters, Avelina Ortiz, Veronica Sosa and Lisa Olivas of Hobbs; sister, Elvira Carrasco of Glendale, Ariz.; and 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Jesse Olivas III, Fred Olivas, Frankie Sosa, Oscar Hernandez, Tommy Carrasco and Chon Carrasco Jr.
