Stephen A. Day, 86, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of South Grove Township, rural Kirkland, Ill., died Wednesday, July 25, 2007. Born July 5, 1921, in Evanston, he was the son of Stephen and Mary (Thayer) Day.

Stephen proudly served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Vietnam, retiring as a colonel. He was past president of the Cape Coral Lions Club, in which he was a Melvin Jones Fellow. He also founded the Leo Club in Cape Coral.

He is survived by a son, William (Shar) Day of Stevens Point, Wis.; a daughter, Susan (Roger) Fulton of Charlottesville, Va.; two sisters, Helen (Fred) Lockwood of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Stephanie (Sam) White of Tryon, S.C.; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Nathaniel and Mark; and a great-grandchild, Aiden.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marilyn Driscoll Day.

The graveside burial service with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at South Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Nancy Weingartner officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home.
