Margaret A. "Mag" Heavican, 84, of Schuyler died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Schuyler.

She was born July 10, 1924, in Schuyler to Joseph J. and Greta (Dolan) Sinkula. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1942. She married Michael J. "Pete" Heavican on Sept. 14, 1944. He died in 1960. Following Pete's death, she ran the Schuyler Newstand, worked as a cook at Schuyler High School and was a United States Postal worker for 22 years.

She was a member St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Mother Cabrini Study Club, Little Flower Altar Society, Schuyler Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Auxiliary, former member of the Grandview Extension Club, Colfax County ARC and served 12 years as a member and secretary of the Schuyler Central High School Board of Education. She kept score for the Schuyler girls Track team in its early years and belonged to the Coca Cola Collectors of America.

Survivors include: a daughter, Katherine "Kak" (and husband, Allen) Ernst of Schuyler, a brother, Bill (and wife, Kathleen) Sinkula of Cincinnati; two sisters-in law, Bernice Heavican of Schuyler and Monica Peiper of Dodge; and two grandsons.

She also was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law.

The memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Schuyler with the Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
