Earl was the 10th child of Peter & Ellen Conley, and their last surving son. He was killed in action in France, during WWI. At the time of his death he was serving with Battery A, 120th Field Artillery, of the 32nd Division. "He was killed as the result of a German bomb during an aeroplane raid." The Bruce, Wisconsin American Legion Post is named after Earl.
