Selma's story starts off happily enough, but ends a little sadly. She gets to America all right, reunites with her siblings, meets Walfred Wandland and they are married in 1906. Walfred smartly starts going by the name Walter, and earns his living as an elevator constructor (builder). His occupation is listed as "elevator operator" in his death record, which would either be a mistake or possibly indicate a demotion. But if he was able to build elevators, there would be no reason to move him down the ladder (so to speak).

They have their first son, Walter, in 1908, but he dies at the age of two in February of 1911, while she is presumably pregnant with their second son Harry E. Harry is born some time in 1911, or so we assume from the Census records. Selma's husband dies in June, 1924 at the age of 45. Fifteen years later, on February 26, 1939, son Harry dies at the age of 28, and then Selma dies later that year, on November 5th, 1939, at the age of 63. No cause of death is listed for any of the Wandlands in the records available. Maybe some day we'll find more information.
