G. D. "Grip" Daughtery, 80 of Route 3, Smithfield, died Saturday at his home.

Mr. Daughtery was a retired farmer.

He was a native of Johnston County.

Mr. Daughtery was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Smithfield.

The funeral was held at 11 o'clock Monday morning at the First Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Stewart Humphrey and the Rev. Richard F. Lewis officiated. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Hubert Roberts, Walter Roberts, Jesse Stallings, Frank Hill, V. R. Mallard, and Clifton Collins.

Honorary Pallbearers were Heba Creech, Claude Hill Jr., L. W. Strickland, M. V. Hill, Johnny Talton, Robert Hill, Connie Lassiter, Henry Crumpler, Ruffin Hill, J. A. Jones, and Ed Jernigan.

Mr. Daughtery is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Jernigan Daughtery, six daughters, Mrs. Phillip Taylor of Havelock, Mrs W. C. Overby, Mrs. Elmer Owens, and Mrs. Herman Mason of Smithfield, Mrs. Edwin Matthews of Portsmouth, Va., and Mrs. Dale Lindsey of Vincetown, N. J.; two sons, Carlton Daughtery of Smithfield and Rudolph Daughtery of Monroe; a half brother, Ralph D. Daughtry of Smithfield; 24 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
