Willis "Clinton" Wade was born on April 29, 1880 in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of Patrick Henry Wade (1846–1912) and Martha Jane "Mattie" (Herd) Wade (1854–1929).

He was married on November 11, 1902 at Park Avenue Church in Nashville to Martha Emma "Mattie" Spencer (1884–1947), the daughter of John R Spencer (1863–1922) and Cora Watson (Mitchell) Spencer (1863–1935).

At an early age, Clinton worked as general storekeeper for L&N Railroad in Nashville. He later resigned and became manager of the Nashville district office of Loose-Wiles Biscuit Company. Later still he organized his own firm Ukaneat Specialty Company which made candies and peanut products. Then after working in the sales department of Cheek Neal Coffee Company in Chicago, he organized CJD Motor Freight Lines, a trucking company that operated between Chicago and Detroit. And, he later returned to Nashville where he worked as an occupational analyst for the Tennessee Department of Employment Security for 20 years.

A Methodist and living at 3610 Woodmont Blvd in Nashville, Clinton was 83 years old when he died of myocarditis at home on August 4, 1963.

Survivors included daughters Miss Martha Clintine Wade in Nashville and Mrs Malloy C Pate of Fayetteville, North Carolina, sisters Mrs Albert S Jackson at Nashville and Mrs Erland H Hedrick of Beckley, West Virginia, brother Walter Howell Wade at Nashville and a grandson.

Funeral Services were held on August 6th at Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, and burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
