Called Nellie in her youth, Elinor was the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Lynch Durkee. Born and raised in WI, she taught school until moving to WA with her parents.
She taught at Franklin HS in Tacoma in 1911 and continued this occupation for her entire working career. On June 27, 1916 she married John McTighe. They had three children.
Elinor was a member of the Retired Teachers Assn. of Tacoma and the National Education Assn. At the end of her life, she was living in Spokane WA. When she died, her funeral and internment was in Tacoma.
