Carlos was the son of Cyrus and Mary (Smith) Curtis who were married in Turnbridge, Orange, Vermont in 1828. Carlos was born in Lambridge, VT in 1830 and left Vermont with his parents and siblings in 1837 settling in the town of Sullivan, Wisconsin. Two years later in 1839 they went back east but the following spring they returned to Wisconsin where they remained.

Carlos married three times. His first wife was Mary L. born February 29, 1832 died December 10 1854 probably due to complications of child birth. Carlos and Mary L. had one child:
Hiram (1854-79)

Carlos married Celinda A. the daughter of Ebenezer Frissell. In the 1870 census, Carlos and Celinda are living in East Bear River, Yuba, California. Also in the household are their 2-year old son Frank and Carlos' 16 year old son Hiram from his first marriage.

Carlos and Celinda were the parents of:

Frank E.
Millie E.(Walter Lendhardt)
Lizzielle

Celinda died in 1883.

Carlos married a third time. The following article from The Watertown News, Wednesday, April 2, 1890 pg 4 is courtesy of Findagrave Contributor Gleem (47042780):

"FORT ATKINSON, March 31.- The wedding of an elderly couple occurred here yesterday, the date of which was kept secret until the time of the ceremony. Mrs. O. M. Spaulding, widow of Lyman Spaulding, one of the early settlers of Koshkonong, was married at her home on Whitewater avenue to Carlos Curtis, also an old settler, engaged in the meat business here. The Rev. Rose, of the Congregational church officiated."

Olive Malissa (Beach) had six children by her first husband Lyman Spaulding, who died in 1884, all of whom were adults by the time of their mother's marriage to Carlos.
