The birth and death dates of Sarah need to be verified. Per census records, Sara could have been born between 1818-1824. She is last shown on the 1880 Upper Milford, Lehigh County, Pa. census record. She is not listed anywhere on the 1900 U.S. Census records, so her death date is between 1880-1900, probably in Upper Milford Township, Lehigh County, Pa. Sarah was the wife of Jacob Bittenbender and the daughter of George & Mary Catharine (Albrecht) Wagner.

U.S. CENSUS RECORDS:
1850 LONGSWAMP, BERKS CO, PA. - Jacob Bittenbender (34) & wife Sarah (31), children Susanna (12), Mary (8), John (5), Sarah (3), and Caroline (2).
1860 LONGSWAMP, BERKS CO, PA. - Jacob (46) & Sarah (36).
1870 UPPER MILFORD, LEHIGH CO, Pa. - Sara (48), widow.
1880 UPPER MILFORD, LEHIGH CO, Pa. -
Sarah (60), widower, living with sons Meno and David and living near son Henry and his family. Sara spoke German, but not English, and could not write. There are no records found for Sara after the 1880 census, so it appears Sara died between 1880 and 1900 (there is no 1890 census); her tombstone has not been found, but believed to have been at St. Peter's cemetery in Macungie since that area is where she lived with her sons, and most of her children are buried at St. Peters. The burial of Sara and her husband Jacob could also have been at the Bittenbender family homestead.
