In 1918 James and Ella loaded their belongings and six kids into a Model "T" and headed for Oklahoma.

Services Set


Funeral services for James W. "Jim" Allen, 1421 W. 2nd who died in Community hospital Sunday, will be conducted from the high school auditorium at Hammon Tuesday, July 13, at 2:30 p.m. With Jess Rowley officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Hill cemetery.

Mr. Allen was born in Indian Territory, which is now Afton, Okla., on April 2, 1892. He was 79.

He moved from Afton to New Mexico in 1906 and was married to Ella B. Cleveland at Tucumcari, N.M. May 11, 1911. They moved to Hammon in the fall of 1923 where he was engaged in farming and ranching.

He moved to Elk City some 10 year ago following his retirement in 1955.

He was a member of the Fairview Baptist church and was greatly interested in community projects that were for the good of the community. He served on the Hammon school board for 12 years.

His first wife preceded him in death August 5, 1960. He then married Mrs. Rose Moore Geareald July 16, 1962 at Sayre. She survives him.

Other survivors include 4 daughters, Mrs. Rachel Gwarthney, Hammon, Mrs. Lucille Singleton, Amarillo, Mrs. Janita Shelton and Mrs. Wilma Johnson both of Elk City; 5 sons, Tommie Allen and Elvin Allen of Hammon; Dooley and Leroy Allen, Amarillo; Raymond Allen of Vinita, Okla., 3 stepchildren, Mrs. Faye Jackson, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Mrs. Marie McClendon, Detroit, Michigan and Rev. Glenn Geareald of Leedey; 2 brothers, Mark and Dewey Allen of Amarillo; also, 37 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
