Derrill Gene Bartley, 87, went home to be with his Lord on August 22, 2012.

He was born on May 26, 1925, in Horton, Kansas, the son of Glenn and Hulda Bartley.

He graduated from Horton High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot.

He graduated from Kansas State University, where he played Wildcat varsity football and baseball, in 1948.

Upon graduation, he began a 32-year career in Texaco's oil and gas accounting departments eventually working in Russell, Kansas, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Houston, Texas.

Upon retirement in 1981, he continued working as an independent auditor with H. Gene Brown & Associates until 1995.

He was a faithful member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and served as an usher for over fifteen years.

He also enjoyed many years volunteering at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital after moving to University Place in 2000.

He was predeceased by his wife Melba Lee Bartley.

He is survived by his two daughters Patti Silva and husband Mike and Glenda Binkley; and his four grandchildren Peter Binkley and wife Amy with son Dryden, Sam Binkley, and wife Kristin with son Connor, Laura Silva Carter and husband Stephen, and Matt Silva.

He is also survived by his sister Charlotte Carroll and husband Jim of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was a very loving and caring man devoted to God, his family, and countless co-workers, friends, and golfing buddies.

He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's band and sporting events.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was buried on August 25, 2012, at Woodlawn Cemetery with family in attendance at a private graveside service.
