Katherine N. Carson, of Walterboro, departed this life for Heavenly rest August 12.

She was a daughter of Aurelius Carter Fountain and Isla Sports Crosby and the widow of Joseph Aaron Carson.

Katherine retired from Hiott's Pharmacy in Walterboro after 21 years of employment. Mrs. Carson was very active in the Walterboro Community. She was a charter member of the Welch Creek Baptist Church for 28 years, where she was a member of the Sunshine Sisters, was a member of the Colleton County Senior Friends and the Order of the Easter Star.

She was an avid Clemson University supporter. There were many things in life she liked to do. Katherine was always active in the church, liked to shop for clothes, collect dolls, work crossword puzzles, and play solitaire. She liked to shop at flea markets and enjoyed working in her garden. She loved to read her Bible and socialize with friends at her church, weddings she attended, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, or revivals. In her lifetime, she personally visited 47 of the 50 states in our Nation.

She was married to the late Joseph Aaron Carson for 47 years before his death in 1994 and surviving are her daughter, Dr. Valarie Carson Bryan Wunner of Fort Pierce, FL; her sons, W. Carter Watkins of Phoenix City, AL and Tommy Carson of Mt. Pleasant; fourteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren, as well as a host of many wonderful and cherished friends.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Crosby; a brother, Thomas Fountain; and a sister, Edafel Fountain DeWitt.
