Myra D. Born-Gant, 67, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:25 P.M., Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Myra had been a school teacher and taught 8th grade Language Arts for thirty-eight years in Du Quoin. She retired in May of 2009. She was a long time sponsor of the Social Studies Club. She attended the Spirit of Life Christian Church in Du Quoin. She was a member of Police, Fire and Merit Board for the City of Du Quoin, American Legion Auxiliary in Du Quoin, Retired Teachers Association of Perry County, Illinois Education Association and Fraternal Order of Moose Lodge in Murphysboro.
She was born August 8, 1945 at Herrin, IL, the daughter of Melton Wayne and Reatha May (Halleran) Noakes.
She married Henry Born Jr. on December 18, 1965 at Carterville, IL. She married Ray Charles Gant on July 18, 1998 at Du Quoin, IL and he preceded her in death on December 17, 2010.
She is survived by one son, Wayne Alan Born and wife, Marianne; three step children, Freddie Ray Gant and wife, Sandy, Kevin Gant and wife, Jamie and Dana Rice and husband, Ryan; thirteen grandchildren, Emily Marie Born, Jacob Gant, Braeden Gant, Alexa Gant, Colin Rice, Dalton Rice, McKaylie Rice, Krista Gant, Anthony Gant, Abigail Gant, Emily Amos, Megan Amos,and Hailey Amos.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray Charles Gant and one brother, Philip Noakes.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Dan McKinnies officiating.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 P.M., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Carterville.
