Donald Milton Bruce

Donald Milton Bruce, of Clute passed away June 22, 2006, after a courageous two-year battle with melanoma cancer.
He was born in Huntsville, Texas, on January 25, 1938, to Andrew V. and Lavada Childress Bruce.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and a son, Paul, of Clute; mother, Lavada Bruce of The Woodlands/Madisonville; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Awalt of The Woodlands; four nieces and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2006, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Mr. Dan Kessner and Mr. Jim Belcher of the Clute Church of Christ, where Donald was a member, officiating. Interment will be 4 p.m. at Plainview Cemetery near Normangee, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Mike Reneau, Mal Finger, Ronnie Ponder, Gerald Shanks, Hollis Hood, Tommy Blalock, Ricky Music and Lamar Jordan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Carter, Dr. Arvin Gardner, Tal Turner, Randy Wiggins, Barry Williams and Anthony Alexander.

Donald moved to the Brazosport area in 1942. He lived there all of his life. He graduated from Brazosport High School in 1956 and from Texas A&M in 1960 with an engineering degree. After graduation, he came back to the area and went into business with Tal Turner, and they opened Central Auto Parts in 1964. After nine years, he then ventured into real estate and commercial properties.
