OBITUARY:
BURY MRS. PHIPPS' BODY IN ROTHERWOOD
Daughter of Late Maj. McKinney Once Lived on Farm Near Cemetery. The body of Mrs. J. McKinney Phipps, who died Tuesday at her home in Bristol, was buried in the old family cemetery at Rotherwood Wednesday, the services being conducted by the Rev. Mr. Isaac S. Anderson, of Rose Hill, Va., Dr. C.C. Carson and Dr. Lynn Walker, of Bristol.

Mrs. Phipps, who was 66 years of age, was a daughter of the late Maj. C.J. McKinney [Phipps used, but incorrect] and was born in Rogersville. She married J.[Joshua] McKinney Phipps in 1873 when Mr. Phipps lived at Rotherwood and owned the farm which still bears that name. She lived there for many years. She is survived by her husband, three sons - C.J., J.G. [James Gaines] and J.M.[J. McKinney] Phipps; and three daughters - Mrs. Sam L. King [Ann Phipps], Mrs. Arthur Cosler [Frances Logan Phipps] and Mrs. G.F. Phillips [Elise Phipps].

Those acting as pallbearers at the funeral were: James Lynn, Thomas Howard, R.M. Crumley, Anson King, Tom Hedrick, A.J. Martin, John H. Caldwell and P.M. Bachman.

The flower bearers were Col. J.M. Barker, Dr. Sam Rhea, D.M. LaFaitte, J.D. Mitchell, John I. Cox, J.W. Norvell, Will Roller, Sam Anderson, Dave Roller, J.S. Vance, Dr. E.W. Tipton, O.B. Bynum, W.D. Kenner, R.M. Regan, King Anderson, J.K. Brewer and Judge H.H. Haynes.

1870 census, enumerated with her parents at age 16 in Hawkins Co., TN.
1900 census, on which she was listed as born April 1854 and is enumerated with her husband, Joshua, & children. They both state they have been married 27 years [m. 1873].
1910 census, enumerated with her husband, Joshua, and they now live in Bistol, TN. and youngest daughter, Elsie, still lives with them.
January 1920 census, enumerated with her husband, who is now called Mack J. M. Phipps, and she goes by Mamie and is listed as 65 years old. With a birthday in April, she would then be age 66 when she died in June.
