Arlene Marie Reist Bates, 96, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Winchester Senior Living Center. She was born January 18, 1921 at Bern, KS, the daughter of Fred and Mary Ann Humm Reist. Arlene graduated from Seneca High School in 1938. She attended Strickler’s Business School. She served in the US Navy during WWII. She was a homemaker and a Farmer’s wife. Arlene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oskaloosa where she was the church Organist. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the American Legion Aux #36 and the Pleasant View Grange. She married George Alfred Bates on May 10, 1947 at Topeka. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2001. Survivors include three sons, Gene Bates, Oskaloosa, Gary (Kim)Bates, Woodward, OK, Ronne (Tina) Bates, Oskaloosa, a brother, Rex Reist, Seneca, a sister, Mary Lou Morris, Hamilton, MT, four grandchildren, Kelsey, David, Jarrod and Haylee Bates and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the Barnett Family Funeral Home. Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church c/o the funeral home.
