Lucille "Lucy" Maxine Hiatt, age 96 of Salem, formerly of Albia, passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Lucy was born Sept. 28, 1916 to James Heram and Emma Frances (King) Spurgin in Monroe County. She married Lloyd Fisher in 1938. Lloyd preceded Lucille in death on Aug. 23, 1950. She married Paul Hiatt in 1954, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1970.
Lucy grew up and attended country school in Albia. She worked at Chamberlain's in Albia for 17 years.
Lucy was a charter member of the Eagles Club in Albia. She loved to dance and spend time with her family; especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed her dog, Selma.
Lucy is survived by a daughter, Carol Jean Kennedy of Salem; three grandchildren, Vicki (Doug) Swails, Suzanne (Ben Entler) Kennedy, and Sabrina (Pat) Mathews; and three great-grandchildren, Mariah, Ryan and Hollie. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and her dog, Selma.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lloyd Fisher and Paul Hiatt; a sister, Mabel Barnes; two brothers, Harold and Jack Spurgin; and two step brothers, Dewey and Clyde Spurgin.
As was Lucy's wish, her body has been cremated and a graveside service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Blakesburg Cemetery in Blakesburg.
No visitation is planned.
Memorials have been established to Blakesburg Cemetery, Salem Fire and Rescue, and Albia Eagles Club and Ladies Auxiliary.
