Ruby Lee Mott, 74, Abingdon, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, in the Care Center of Abingdon. She was born July 29, 1938, in Pocahontas, Ark., the daughter of Lester and Ina Lee Knight Williams. She is survived by two sons, Russell Ray of Abingdon and Randal (Mary) Ray of Little York; her daughter, Rhonda "Bunny" (Darrin) Dalton of Abingdon; a sister, Carol (Sidney) Lewis of Abingdon; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Moore, Amanda, Adam, Morgan, Maranda, Madison, Matthew Ray, Lexi Dalton; and four great-grandchildren, Lydia, Spencer, Cooper and Kymora. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Paul Leslie and Rick Ray; and a sister, Virginia "Ginny" Hermie. She worked for the former Galesburg Research Hospital and later worked as a registered nurse for Zeller Mental Health Care Center in Peoria. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1956 and Carl Sandburg College Nursing Program in 1986. She was a charter member of the Abingdon Historical Society. She was a member of the Abingdon Junior Women's Club, Friends of John Mosser Public Library, and a volunteer for C.A.S.A. Ruby enjoyed gardening, flowers, and reading. She loved to attend the book fair at the library. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Historical Society or to the John Mosser Public Library.
