Doris Verenda Aaberg, the 6th child of 13, born to Gilman and Clara (Berg) Aaberg, was born on March 13, 1922. She was raised on a farm south of Starbuck located on part of the land which is now the Glacial Lake State Park. She attended eight years of country school at District #59. She was baptized and a confirmed member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Doris was united in marriage to Grant Thompson on June 29, 1941. Their life together was interrupted with the war, when Grant was called to military service for three years. Doris made several trips by train to see her husband in Georgia before he went overseas. The rest of their lives were spent in Starbuck and made this community their home.

Doris did babysitting for several families around Starbuck over the years. She also worked at the Minnewaska Hospital in laundry and janitorial for 23 years. She was a member of the ladies VFW Auxiliary Post #4582.

Doris died on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.

Doris is survived by: one son; daughter-in-law; one daughter; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also four sisters; one brother, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Grant Thompson in 2004; one grandson: Kevin in 1995; her parents; six brothers: Clarence, Arnold, Russell, Wallace, LeRoy and Edward and one sister: Dorine.

Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
