She was born in Carmen, Okla., Aug. 10, 1933, the daughter of Charles A. and Leah Vashti Phinney Hogan.
She was a 1950 graduate of Ringwood High School, Ringwood, Okla., a 1954 graduate of Friends University, Wichita, a member of First United Methodist Church, Pratt and a chancel choir member, a member of ASCLS, Kansas Society of Clinical Lab Scientists, a past member of American Society of Microbiologists, was a clinical laboratory scientist for over 30 years and in 2001 was awarded the SWACM Distinguish Service Award. She was a member of American Sewing Guild. Leah had sung in the Friends University Singing Quakers. Leah's life was full of beauty; music, clothes, sewing, and roses were passions. Her vibrancy was illuminated in her many friendships. Travel with friends and family was a special joy.
On Jan. 12, 1954, she married Loren Eugene Jones in Ringwood, Okla. He died Feb. 4, 2003.
She is survived by: their children, Michael Eugene of Turon, Lauren Frances Jones and husband Mark Hornung of NJ; two grandsons, Christian Shiloh Augustus "Kit" Hornung, Gareth Temple Fell Hornung of NJ; her sisters and brothers, Rita Ann Newman of Texas, Patrick Charles Hogan of Wichita, Leland Michael Eugene Hogan of Mo. and Frances Rachel Patricia Williams of Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant sister, Peggy Jo Hogan.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Keith A. Dellenbach officiating. Burial will be in Lerado Cemetery. Visitation from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the mortuary.
