SPRINGPORT--William E. "Gene" Baty, 89, went to be with the Lord Friday afternoon. He passed away peacefully at his home following an extended illness.

He was born September 21, 1918 in Mt. Summit and was the son of the late Charlie and Anna Jane (Bartley) Baty. He was a graduate of Mt. Summit High School and served in the United States Army during World War II.

Mr. Baty was a retired employee of Warner Gear in Muncie, retiring in 1980 following 30 years of service.

He was a member of the Wesleyan Chapel Church in Muncie. Mr. Baty enjoyed reading, history and spending time with his family, especially his grand and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances (Bottoms) Baty, whom he married on August 17, 1943; one daughter and one son;
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Charles Robert and Tom Baty.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday a;t the Main & Davis Funeral Home, Astor Main Blue River Chapel located midway between Mooreland and Mt. Summit on Highway 36. Reverend Jason Fisher will officiate. Friends may cal from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
