Edith Roland Hayes, 79, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born January 31, 1933, in Spartanburg, she was married for 54 years to the late James M. Hayes Sr., and was the daughter of the late Wilford Lee and Nellie Chandler Roland.

Mrs. Hayes retired after 35 years of service working for the J. Frank Blakely Electric Company. She was also the owner of Hayes Dry Cleaners, Chesnee, S.C. A 1951 graduate of Spartanburg High School, she was also a graduate of Cecil's Business College. She was a longtime active member of Cudd Memorial Baptist Church, the Love Sunday School Class, and was active in numerous aspects of the church. She was a volunteer for Mobile Meals, a Line Dancing instructor with the Shepherd Center, and named the 2010 Volunteer of the Year for her contributions to the Shepherd Center.

Surviving are her son, The Honorable J. Mark Hayes, II of Spartanburg, S.C.; daughter, Melissa Hayes Andrews and husband Bob of Mayo, S.C.; grandchildren, Jennifer Andrews White and husband Bobby of Irmo, S.C., and Robert Andrews and wife Autumn of Boiling Springs, S.C.; great-grandson, Trace White; and sister, Iva Jean Shea of Spartanburg, S.C..

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Stanford Roland.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2012, at Cudd Memorial Baptist Church, by the Rev. Danny Garrett and the Rev. Ronnie Norris. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Shepherds Center, 393 East Main Street, Spartanburg, .2.9302; or Cudd Memorial Baptist Church Future Building Fund, 1301 Boiling Springs Road, Spartanburg, S.C. 29303.

The family is at their respective homes.
