Herbert "Herb" E. Daynoff, age 86, beloved father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 16, 2012. Herbert was born in Abilene, KS on January 12, 1926, to Aaron and Bertha Hoover Dayhoff. Herbert attended Washburn University where he received his Bachelor's degree. Herbert enjoyed playing football, basketball and was a avid football fan. Herbert was a lifetime member of the Elks, was on the board of directors for the Chamber of Commerce and past member of YEIS, Jaycees, Lions and the Rotary Club. Herbert made his home in New Mexico in 1953 where he began his family retail shoe store "Dayhoff Shoe Store" in Clovis, NM, and also had stores in Gallup, Grants, Roswell and Albuquerque. Herbert retired in 1998. Herbert will be fondly remembered by his contagious smile, laughter, and his numerous stories. We will forever hold him near to our hearts.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Metta Jean Dayhoff, brothers, Ivan and Dennis Dayhoff; sisters, Arlene Barler and Nettie Harrison and grandson, Jarrod Castillo. Herbert is survived by his loving children, Brenda Smith and her husband, Roger and Eric E. Dayhoff, his grandchildren, Amber Dayhoff, Christopher Smith, Jordan Castillo, one great-granddaughter, Nevea Clinton all of Albuquerque, sister, Nelda Horan of Abilene, KS, other relatives and friends. Herbert will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose hearts he touched. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Sara Chapel, 4310 Sara Road, SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Interment to follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Rio Rancho, NM. Pallbearers will be Christopher Smith, Jordan Castillo, Garrett Kester, Joe Barbarone and Michael Cariglio. Honorary Bearer will be Alex MacKay.
