Mrs. Philip Seifert
(Susan Thiery Seifert)

December 25, 1900
Sudden Death of Mrs. Philip Seifert

When Philip Seifert, a well known pioneer resident of Union Street, arose Monday morning, he found his aged life partner lying on the floor of a room at his home. Investigation revealed that Mrs. Seifert was still alive, but before medical aid could be summoned, she expired; heart trouble being the cause of death. The deceased had been in her usual good health up to the time of retiring Sunday evening.
Mrs. Seifert, born Thiery, was born in Germany 77 years ago and came to America in 1847, settling with her parents in Seneca Township. On February 20, 1850, she was married to her grief-stricken husband, in New Riegel. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in this city last February, at which time the Advertiser published an extended biographical sketch of the highly respected couple. Eight children of the deceased survive.
The funeral services will be held in St. Joseph's Caholic Church at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday morning.

Obituary taken from The Cleveland Weekly Leader:

VERY SUDDEN DEATH

Mrs. Phillip Seifert, a well known pioneer resident of this county, was found dead on the floor of her bedroom about 5:20 o'clock this morning. Mrs. Seifert got out of bed, presumably to dress while her husband was still sleeping. When he got up, he found her on the floor dead, or at least with very little signs of life. Heart disease was pronounced to have been the cause of her sudden death. Mrs. Seifert was apparently enjoying her usual health, and attended the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the one in which she worshipped, Sunday morning.
The deceased, whose maiden name was Susan Thiery, was born in Luxembourg, Germany, and was 77 years and 5 months old at the time of her death. She came to America in Jauary, 1847, going directly to Seneca Township where she resided until about ten years ago, when she and her husband became residents of this city. On Febuary 20, of the present year, Mr. and Mrs. Seifert celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, on which occasion a large number of their relatives and friends gathered at their home on Union Street.
The following children survive: Mrs. John Casey, and Nicholas J. Seifert, Upper Sandusky; Mrs. Charles Benner, and Joseph Seifert, Seneca Township; Margaret, a sister of the order of St. Benedict at Pratte, Alabama; Mrs. Jacob Phillips, St. Stephens, and the Misses Catherine and Theresa, Tiffin. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
