Fredrick was the son of David Barrick and Anna Mary Anders. He married Eliza E Reamer (died April 1, 1917) in 1861 in Juniata Twp., Perry County, Pennsylvania. They were the parents of William Emery, Phillip, George, Hugh, Andrew Dysen, Maude, Myrtle H, and Lillie Bell.
August 18, 1899 - Palo Alto Reporter - On Friday, Aug. 12th, occurred the death of Mr. Frederick Barrick, who lived one mile southeast of Mallard, Iowa. Mr. Barrick never fully recovered from his sickness contracted in the war of the Rebellion. On the 4th of July last he was taken to his bed catarrh of the stomach being the ailment to which he succumbed. He recently remarked: "I have been fighting for life for the last thirty years, but shall fight no-longer."
He was a member of the Methodist church and during his intense suffering he never complained, but often testified of his assuarance in the hope of eternal life. He leaves a wife and seven children.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Simpson, his pastor. A very large concourse of friends paid their last respects to the earthly remains of a good neighbor, and a kind and sympathetic husband and father. The interment was made in the Stratton cemetery. (Stone found in Rush Lake Cemetery)
The immediate relatives of the deceased wish to hereby earnestly thank their kind neighbors for help and sympathy manifested to them during their recent bereavement.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg August 29, 1864, and mustered into federal service there August 30 as a private with Co. E, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry. Hospitalized for illness February 25, 1865, he returned to duty with the company April 26 and therefore missed participating in the final assault on Petersburg, Virginia, on April 2. He honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865. To the day of his death, he insisted that the disease he contracted while in the army never left him.
