Hixie Bernice Snider, 86, of Fairfield, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, in Baylor's Dick and Jane Hamilton Center in Dallas. Services will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church, Fairfield, and interment will be in the Fairfield Cemetery with Terry Skinner officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 17, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Bernice was born in Tennessee Colony, Anderson County, Texas, to the late Lillie Era (Huffman) and George Hicks Little. When Bernice's brother, Charles was born, their mother, Lillie died. He was adopted by Dickie Huffman and grew up in Palestine. Bernice was then reared by her grandparents, Carolina "Carrie" Lenora Graser and Bowen Springs Huffman. Bernice married Patrick Delaney Cook, Jr. and they had two sons, Patrick Delaney "Jerry" Cook III and Robert Cook. She later married Eddie Grey Snider of Wortham, on August 8, 1947. She had met Eddie in Palestine. They had three children, Barry, Carey and Ted Snider.
Bernice worked as a seamstress and was known for her cheerful and pleasant personalily. She loved children and served in the nursery of Calvary Baptist Church for many years. Bernice was a member of the Victory Sunday School class. Her greatest treasure was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Snider; son, Robert Cook; brother, Charles Little Huffman; granddaughter, Connie Cook; and grandson, Eddie John Snider.
She is survived by her daughter, Carey Chavers and husband, Mark, of Fairfield; sons, Patrick "Jerry" Cook and wife, Barbara, of Rusk, Barry Snider and wife, Paula, of Fairfield, and Ted Snider and wife, Jeanie, of Fairfield; grandchildren, Josh Cook and wife, Kayla, of Rusk, Amy Scurlock and husband, David, of Georgetown, Amile Snider, of Fairfield, Brian Chavers and wife, Christy, of Fairfield, Adam Chavers and wife, Pam, of Faifield, Wendy Neyland and husband, Tommy, of Centerville, Joseph Snider and wife, Sarah, of Fairfield, and Tammy Snider, of Austin; great-grandchildren, Mandy Chavers, Lucas Chavers, Wade Neyland, Abigail Neyland, Kaydence Neyland, Jacob Chavers, Rachel Chavers, Emily Scurlock, Casey Scurlock, Molly Scurlock, and Morgan Snider.
