SUICIDE NEAR PENN YAN
Harlan Bush, a Prominent Farmer, Killed Himself While Dispondent

PENN YAN, July 7. - Harlan P. Bush a prominent farmer and vineyardist of the town of Jerusalem, Yates county committed suicide last evening. Mr. Bush had been sick with stomach trouble for about two years and for the past six months his condition has grown worse. He worried continually.

Friday evening, Mr. Bush told his wife that he intended to sit up for awhile. Mrs. Bush lay down on a lounge in the front part of the house, while he went and sat on the woodhouse steps. Finally she dropped off into a dose, and on awakening some ten minutes later went out to her husband and found him dead.

A wound had been made with a razor on the left side of the neck just below the jaw, severing the jugular vein.

Coroner B. B. Havens, of Penn Yan, was summoned and rendered a verdict of death by suicide.

Mr. Bush was 63 years of age, and leaves a wife and five children, of whom Fred Bush, of Penn Yan, is one. He also leaves one brother, Dr. R. P. Bush, of Horseheads, ex-speaker of the assembly, and three sisters. Deceased has served as school commission of Yates county. He was a pensioner of the Civil war, and a member of the Post Sloan, No. 98, G. A. R. of Penn Yan.
