Mrs. Rondo Hatton

A daughter of Sylvester Richard Housh and Minnie Stiger.

Mabel's first marriage was to Mack W. Semes on November 9, 1924 in Pasco County, Florida. The couple were residents of Zephyrhills. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1927. Her second marriage was to James Quincy Kaney of Georgia on November 24, 1927 in Tampa, Florida. This marriage too, ended in divorce in 1934. It was at a masquerade ball that Mabel met her future third husband, Rondo Hatton. He was a respected newspaper journalist with the Tampa Tribune and had recently become the publicity director with Downing's Sports Syndicate, a firm that booked and promoted professional wrestling events. The two fell in love and married on September 29, 1934. The newlyweds maintained a residence at his parents home at 1007 Grand Central Avenue. Committed to each other, both having failed relationships, together they weathered his sudden unemployment in March of 1935 when Downing's declared bankruptcy and his frequent stays at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital. First in July that year for acute arthritis, brought on by his advancing acromegaly and in January 1936, for the treatment of an infected hand. At home, Mabel was involved with the First Christian Church, doing volunteer work and as a member of their Dramatic Club troupe. Hatton's doctors recommended a more arid environment for him, and Mabel suggested, perhaps Hollywood might prove a viable option through his past association with film director Henry King. It was King who gave Rondo his first character role in "Hell Harbor" in 1930. While Mabel waited in Tampa, Rondo set out ahead for Los Angeles in the spring of 1937, and the gamble payed off. King was preparing to start filming "In Old Chicago" for 20th Century Fox and cast his Tampa friend in a credited role as…'Rondo'. Feeling secure about their future, Mabel joined her husband in September 1937.

Mabel's fourth marriage was to Dr. Harry Wayne Wagenseller, M.D. on March 2, 1974 in San Luis Obispo County, California.
