PROVIDENCE, N.C. - William Rudson Purnell, Sr., 79, of Providence, died Nov. 25, 2002 at the Brian Center, Yanceyville. Born Feb. 22, 1923, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of William David Purnell and Julia Taylor Purnell.
He was employed for 20 years with J.W. Squire and later retired from Quality Construction. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of Community Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Novella Roach Purnell; two daughters, Sybil P. Williams and Cindy P. Hamlett; a son, William R. Purnell, Jr.; seven grandchildren. He was also predeceased by three sisters and four brothers.
Burial will be at Danville Memorial Gardens.
