Virginia Dare Gray Houck passed away with her loving family by her side. A native of McDowell County, she was born Jan. 17, 1920 to the late Joseph H. Gray and Ida Bost Gray. Dare was a homemaker who was an excellent cook and if you visited her, you ate! She enjoyed canning, gardening and growing flowers. Traveling was something she enjoyed doing very much.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, George W. Houck; one son, George Lewis; and two sisters, Evelyn Dellinger and Elizabeth Conley.
She is survived by five children, Charles Lewis and wife, Kay, of Troy, N.C., Louise Creswell, of Troy, S.C., Paul Houck, of Nebo, Joan Young and husband, Richard, of Franklin, and Lana Houck, of Nebo; two sisters, Dean Browning, of Morganton and Carolyn Spencer, of Nebo; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
