At his death in 1854, Robert had a major tribute in the Colorado Springs Gazette. Robert was a Detective Sgt. in the Colorado Springs Police Department for 38 years. During that time he was involved in at least two arrests of notorious criminals of that area.

Robert married Lucile M. Clark who was born in Kansas about 1891. They were married about June, 1909. They had one known son, Robert Richard Martin (1910-1994).

Robert was cremated after his death and final resting place of the remains is unknown.

Lucile was also cremated after her death on November 23, 1954, just 19 days after her husband's death.
